
American flamingo (Phoenicpterus ruber).
This magnificent bird with a size of 1,20 to 1,40 meters congregates during winter in flocks of thousands in the area of Celestún, Yucatán México. Feeds in saline and alkaline lakes where they obtain algae and small crustaceans rich in carotenes that give them this incredible pink coloration. Females only lay one egg by season and the newborn is care by both parents, life period of a roseate flamingo is estimated in 40 years.
