October 2009

The Burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia) is quite common in the "Altiplano" a geographical area where the mexican states of Coahuila, Nuevo Léon, Zacatecas and San Luis Potosi have their limits. Here inhabits the enedemic Praire dog (Cynomis mexicanus) enlisted as endangered species by the IUCN due the implementation of vast agricultural potato crops. This bird uses abandoned praire dog burrows for nesting so both species are close realted and probably the burrowing owl population is in risk of disappearing too.
